Their thirty years of sales of Canadian Native art have helped to continue and promote a positive economic base for many native people who are living off the land. Their carvings and prints provide necessary funds for communities where few other employment opportunities exist.

Dirk and Wilma Vermeulen, Carla's parents, are the originators of Ninavik and have a deep interest in promoting Canadian indigenous art and artists. For many years they worked with indigenous peoples in native language education, as well as indigenous art and culture.
