In 1994, the Niagara Pumphouse opened as an art school and gallery. Today it's an attractive and active centre for students, local artists, and community events; featuring exhibits by local artists and workshops for all ages.

Built in 1891, the Niagara Pumphouse is the oldest surviving water treatment building in the regions. Wood fueled pumps took water from the nearby Niagara River for distribution to the town. In the early years, a large room in the building was used for town balls until a rudimentary electric system was installed to serve the neighbourhood. A comfortable three bedroom-home was also provided in part of the building for the plant manager.
