Zimmerman House

General Information

"Located on the corner of Main Street and Regional Road 81/King Street, and built by James Snure, this house belonged to blacksmith and quarry owner Peter Zimmerman. A local story suggests it was to be used as a gristmill but that never came to be. It is more likely that the tale stems from the discovery of two millstones found in the cellar, likely simply being stored there by Zimmerman.

Billy Merritt, a blacksmith took over the house, but did not stay long. A believer in the Temperance Movement he moved out in protest of the Jordan House. He did continue to own the house until his death in 1943. The Imperial Bank of Commerce used the house from 1910 to 1951.

Just to the north of the Zimmerman House is a structure that was occupied in the mid 1800s by Casper Miller.  Mr. Miller was a tailor who also ran a dry goods store from the same location, selling finely cut suits along with coffee, candy and pottery from local potter Danial Orth."  A Walking Tour of The Village of Jordan

This ivy covered historic house is now an antique lightening store that offers an interesting exploration. You must leave your bull outside though as the shop has narrow aisles filled to the brim with unique lamps and fixtures.
