The north shore of Lake Erie in Fort Erie and Port Colborne was once the site of a rail line that, in 1852, was envisioned to unite Canada and bring prosperity to the country. The rail line became known as the Grand Trunk Railway, which hauled freight to Buffalo from 1870 to 1919.
