Friendship Trail

A linear section of the Friendship Trail on a wintry day.

General Information

The north shore of Lake Erie in Fort Erie and Port Colborne was once the site of a rail line that, in 1852, was envisioned to unite Canada and bring prosperity to the country. The rail line became known as the Grand Trunk Railway, which hauled freight to Buffalo from 1870 to 1919.

This historic locomotive route has since been converted into the Friendship Trail, a recreational path that is highly accessible and welcoming to young and old.

With great trail connectivity, beach access, nearby museum's and a nature trail within hiking distance of the trail, the Friendship Trail offers options for enthusiasts of all sorts.

The Friendship trail forms part of the Greater Niagara Circle Route.
