Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail

General Information

The Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail stretches approximately 320 kilometers from Trenton to Stoney Creek. It links communities, natural areas, parks and promenades, marinas and yacht clubs, historic places, commercial districts other trail systems. The trail is coordinated by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, a Provincial Crown Agency, and has been built through partnerships among the private sector, service clubs, volunteers, community groups, conservation authorities and local, provincial and federal governments.

Exit QEW Ontario Street 


Follow Ontario Street to Lakeshore Road


Follow Lakeshore Road (West) to Bunting Road


Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail can be accessed at the corner of Lakeshore Road and Bunting Road



Natural and built heritage. Significant ecological points of interest along the trail include Lake Ontario, protected parkland and farmland.


Cycling along the Waterfront Trail (Sean Bryson)




The St. Catharines Section of the trail is approximately 9 kilometers, stretching from East Port Weller to West Port Dalhousie making use of a combination of city parks and roadways to access as much lakefront as possible. It is a multi-use trail suitable for cyclists and hikers.

Attractions along the trail include Royal Canadian Henley Regatta  Course, Port Dalhousie harbour walkway, Lakeside Park and carousel,Municipal Beach, the Welland Canal, and Happy Rolphs bird sanctuary.

Walking, cycling, cross-country skiing, rollerblading, picnic, birdwatch, sightsee..
