The Thanksgiving Colours and Flavours tour is a self guided tour that will lead the visitor through some of the Niagara Regions finest fall foliage and foods. The Niagara Region is a particularly beautiful place in the fall as the leaves change to vibrant colours, the air is crisp, and there are many outdoor activities that just about anyone can find enjoyment in.

This tour is designed to introduce visitors to some of the delights of the Niagara Greenbelt including hiking trails, restaraunts, markets, and farms with fall specialties. There are many other possible destinations that people could travel to in order to experience the fall season in Niagara, but the chosen sites represent the Niagara community, as well as local and environmental heritage.

The tour is appropriate for those of all ages. All destinations except the Merchant Ale House are great places for families to visit. The Merchant Ale House is a bar and requires patrons to be over 19 years of age, however the Merchant Ale House could also easily be substituted for another restaraunt that is more suited to a family atmosphere. A good choice would be the Strega Cafe or one of the many other eating establishments along St.Paul St. in downtown St.Catharines.

As some of these activitites are only available on Thanksgiving weekend or in the fall season, the tour is limited to taking place on Thanksgiving weekend. The destinations on this tour do not fall on bus routes except for the downtown St.Catharines points of interest, as such the best methods for travel are by car and by bicycle. We reccommend riding the tour by bicycle to encourage environmentally friendly behaviour and a new way of seeing Niagara. Biking provides visitors with more flexibility in what routes they can take and what they can see.

This tour includes activities that have low environmental impact in order to encouage sustainable tourism. The Niagara Region is an important ecological area for producing fruit and vegetables because of its perfect weather and geographical conditions and as such it requires any tourism to be environmentally and culturally responsible. The destinations on this tour also encourage visitors to experience less mainstream destinations, which benefits the visitor and the businesses they are visiting. It also encourages purchasing products and food from local growers and independant restaraunts that use local food products.

Why not use sustainable forms of travel on this tour, such as cycling or walking whenever possible?

The Thanksgiving Colours and Flavours tour begins at the Balls Falls Craft Show, located at the Balls Falls Conservation Area in Vineland. The craft show takes place on Thanksgiving weekend from the Friday to Monday.
